Susan Nemeth Ceramics

Through the making process and the material qualities of the clay, Susan’s work explores the notion of vulnerability in an increasingly abstract world. She aims to highlight the animate qualities of the handmade mark, seeking the essence of the human touch with all its imperfections.

Exploring the idea of the pot as a relic, anthropomorphic qualities are revealed. Openings may resemble the lure of an orifice and bellies may be fleshy and crumpled.Early European porcelains of Meissen and Sèvres were the original reference but these symbols of perfection eliminate the mark of the maker. The imperfect touch creates a more personal response.

Susan Nemeth ceramics will be available Wednesday May 1st at Dover Street Market New York as part of Frieze New York 2024.
